Introducing Dr Sarah Braun, our long-standing former dental nurse now dentist. Inspired by the many staff at SMDG, Sarah went on to complete her masters degree in dentistry at Melbourne University during which time she was still dental nursing at numerous practices. Sarah never forgot her roots and decided to return to where it all began at SMDG, much to our delight. We are thrilled to have her on board.

Sarah is available Tuesday and Friday’s by appointment.

We regret to announce the passing of Dr Derek Braham. Derek was one of the founding partners of South Melbourne Dental Group having moved his practice from Ringwood in 1970 to join his great friend Dr Alex Ivanyi and remained in South Melbourne until his retirement in 2005. He was very fond of his work, the staff and patients at SMDG. His passion was obvious and he was well liked. Many of his patients would remember his sharp wit and fondness of gardening and golf. We would like to extend our sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace Derek. ... See MoreSee Less

Often we get asked what a good age is to bring kids in for a dental check-up.

The earlier the better; we recommend around 3 is a nice age to start bringing children in. Even bringing in kids early to watch their parents have dental work is a great way to familiarize them with the dental surroundings and process.

It’s important to emphasis good oral hygiene habits from an early age to prevent dental problems later on.

Fun fact:
Dental x-rays are important to diagnose and prevent disease. The amount of radiation from an intraoral x-ray is similar to the natural background radiation on a flight from Melbourne to Sydney.
