Following the Victorian government stage 4 lockdowns and the guidelines outlined by the Australian Dental Association, from 6th August 2020, we are only seeing patients for emergencies and those that require urgent care. These restrictions will be in place for the next 6 weeks. Please check our website for updates on when normal services will resume. Thank you for your continued support and stay safe.

Dear Patients,

We are now operating at level 1 restrictions as per the Australian Dental Association Victorian branch guidelines.

This means we can perform all dental procedures for patients who are not at risk of COVID-19 transmission, including cleans with ultrasonic scaler.

We are however still screening patients for cold and flu-like symptoms and taking all necessary precautions to ensure all patients and staff are safe.

Dear patients,

The Prime Minister, acting on Medical Council advice, has eased restrictions on Dentistry from Monday (27th April 2020). This means we are able to undertake more than just emergencies and temporary fillings.

You can be assured of a very safe environment as together we attend to your ongoing dental health. As always, we remain committed to you, by adhering and adopting the highest safety practices as obligated by healthcare professionals. You will hear and see the changes, right from the start, with phone screening, limited waiting room occupancy, reception spray shields, protective gowns, face shields and masks, pre-procedural mouth washing and other matters too.

In addition to previous emergency dental procedures, services that can be performed under Level 2 restrictions include:

Check ups and clean (hand scale only)
Fillings
Most extractions
Orthodontics

If you have any questions, need guidance or are unsure of whether a patient can be treated by us please contact our reception, we are here to help.

Following guidelines and advice from the Australian Dental Association, South Melbourne Dental Group will remain operating with usual business hours.

Our patients’ health is very important and we are continuing with strict infection control protocols and social distancing measures to ensure you are looked after in a safe environment.

We have already implemented most of the latest protocols as per our previous post ahead of the announcement and have added the following items:

+ 1% peroxide pre-treatment mouthrinse
+ removal of most chairs in waiting room leaving only 2 in place; patients are asked to wait outside the building or in their cars
+ removal of all magazines in the waiting room

We will continue to closely monitor the industry regulations and guidelines and keep you updated.

To our SMDG family,

At SMDG, like everyone we are concerned with the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis and the health of our patients and team is paramount.

We want you to know that our team is taking immediate action to minimise the risk of transmission between ourselves, our patients and the wider community.

It is business as usual, during this difficult time. We remain unwavering in our commitment to deliver you the best dental care.

We are following the advice of the Australian Government, World Health Organisation and the Australian Dental Association’s recommendations for minimising the spread of this virus. Here are just some of the things we have been doing:

- Hand sanitiser pumps stationed around the clinic for patients and staff to use.
- Patients have been asked if they are displaying flu-like symptoms or have been to affected areas to refrain from coming for non-urgent dental procedures
- Staff who have been displaying flu-like symptoms to refrain from coming to work
- As per usual infection control protocols, our surgeries are thoroughly cleaned and wiped in between patients and critical instruments are sterilised
- Reading and staying informed about the industry regulations so that if a situation should occur we can respond to ensure the safety and health of everyone involved

Over the coming weeks we will continue to monitor the situation closely and act quickly on the advice of health authorities and keep you posted. We appreciate your patience and your support.

We encourage your to keep living and loving life to the fullest. As a global community we will get through this and it will only bring us closer.

With love,
The SMDG team
